Why the biomarker
As lifestyle diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes, are on the increase, healthy living is now more important than ever. Prevention is better than cure; after all, it saves a lot of suffering, but also lowers healthcare costs and the excess people have to pay themselves. The interest in health and healthy eating is growing. We try out new diets en masse, practice sports more and follow the latest health trends. But are we really healthy?
Despite the fact that 84% of Dutch people think they have a healthy lifestyle, a frightening 50% of adults are overweight. The question is whether the many health trends and diets have the desired effect. Do those popular foods and diets contain enough essential nutrients? The figures above show that we find it hard to determine what is healthy. That’s why it’s important to regularly have your blood levels tested, as it is the only way to find out if you’re actually getting enough vitamins and minerals.
