Analytical testing for cannabis

Since 2018, Brightlabs has held an opium exemption from the BMC (Office of Medicinal Cannabis) for the analysis of cannabis and related products.

Licenses, quality, and expertise come together at Brightlabs.

Brightlabs possesses the required authorizations for the work we perform in the field of cannabis analysis. This allows us to provide reliable analyses within a strictly regulated quality environment.

Opium Act exemption

Granted by the Office of Medicinal Cannabis (BMC). Held since 2018. Required for every pharmaceutical-grade cannabis analysis in the Netherlands.

GMP accredited

Our laboratory operates according to Good Manufacturing Practice standards, the same framework that applies to the production and release of pharmaceutical drugs.

EGC partner

Since 2023, Brightlabs has been the official analytical partner for the Dutch Experiment with a closed coffeeshop chain, the government's cannabis cultivation trial.

Four clear segments. An analytical standard.

Closed Coffeeshop Chain Experiment

Brightlabs holds a specific exemption for the analyses required for the Weed Experiment, the Dutch government's trial of a regulated cannabis supply chain. We work directly with government and research institutions to provide the analyses that support the program.

Pharmacy

Medicinal cannabis

Since 2020, Brightlabs has analyzed all medicinal cannabis in the Netherlands in accordance with the monograph of Dutch legislation. This is the most regulated segment of the cannabis market and requires the highest level of analytical precision.

Consumer products

/

CBD products

Cannabidiol (CBD) oil, hand cream, chocolate, candy—Brightlabs has extensive experience in analyzing the full spectrum of CBD products. Whether it concerns potency labeling, safety compliance, or retailer requirements, we provide accurate and defensible data.

Raw material

/

Plant material

Brightlabs routinely performs analyses on cannabis plant material using in-house, validated methods. From cannabinoid and terpene profiling to microbiological and elemental analyses, all applied to the complex plant matrix.

What we test.

Every cannabis product requires a specific combination of analyses. We have validated methods for all critical parameters.

Cannabinoid profiling

THC, CBD, CBN, CBG, and the full cannabinoid spectrum, quantified via validated HPLC methods that comply with pharmacopoeia standards.

Terpene analysis

Full terpene profile using GC-MS, providing insight into product composition, quality consistency, and authenticity.

Microbiological load

TAMC and TYMC analysis for the detection of bacteria, yeasts, and molds with incubation times fully aligned with USP and Ph. Eur. requirements.

Heavy metals and contaminants

ICP-MS-based detection of heavy metals and inorganic contaminants, essential for medicinal cannabis and pharmaceutical product release.

Microbiological load, why incubation time is crucial

Microbiological contamination is one of the primary reasons for the rejection of cannabis batches. We have published detailed guidelines on why correct incubation times, in line with USP and Ph. Eur. standards, are essential to prevent false-negative results. Read the full article on our dedicated page about microbiological load.

The right technique for every challenge.

We apply a wide range of analytical techniques — always selected based on the complexity and regulatory context of the request.

Nitrosamine analysis

Brightlabs develops advanced analytical methods for the detection of nitrosamines and API-specific nitrosamine impurities (NDSRIs), enabling pharmaceutical organizations to comply with stringent regulations.

Impurity Analysis

Impurities often determine the difference between an approved and a rejected product. We bring them into focus.

Stability studies

Stability studies answer a question required by every regulatory dossier: how does your product behave over time?

QC Testing

QC testing is not a formality. It is the final, decisive check before a product reaches the market.

Method development

Method development is not a 'nice-to-have'. It is the foundation upon which everything else depends.

Analytical Troubleshooting

A method that worked for years but now produces inexplicable results is one of the most frustrating analytical problems. We solve them.

Science is only as good as the people behind it.

Brightlabs was founded on a simple belief: that analytical chemistry is most valuable when driven by genuine scientific curiosity and a commitment to doing things the right way.
