INTERREG Project: SUN

Brightlabs is participating in the SUN project. This German-Dutch initiative focuses on exploring potential applications for food-grade by-products derived from fruit and vegetable processing. This approach aims to prevent these side streams from being downgraded to animal feed or used for energy in biogas plants.

The project aims to develop new, sustainable recipes and products while remaining fully compliant with food safety regulations.

The path to creating new products or recipes involves several key stages:

  • Inventory of side streams and their material usage
  • Development of new drying and extraction processes
  • Development of new recipes
  • Legal assessment of side streams and the resulting new products

The SUN project leverages the expertise of all partners to create new, sustainable products, opening up significant market opportunities and making a substantial ecological contribution.

Within the SUN project, Brightlabs is responsible for developing analytical methods to determine the composition of these side streams and the resulting products. To valorize these side streams and ensure proper registration, it is essential to guarantee the quality of both the raw side streams and the final products. Brightlabs utilizes HPLC and LC-MS/MS techniques to develop the appropriate analytical methods for this purpose.
